    The Bachelor's Essay is a year-long research and writing project done during the senior year under the close supervision of a tutor from the program. The student must take the initiative in seeking a tutor to help in both the design and the supervision of the project. A project proposal must be submitted in writing and approved by the program prior to registration for the course. Students must take the initiative in seeking a faculty member to help in the design and supervision of the project. This is an individual enrollment course, and registration is carried out through consultation with the faculty mentor. Prerequisites: Permission of the instructor and Department/Program approval prior to registration. Individual departments or programs may prescribe particular requirements for eligibility for the bachelor's essay, particular procedures for the approval of proposals, and/or particular guidelines for the projects themselves. Although it is impossible to cover all of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean) in one semester, students will gain an insight into some of the major historical events and cultural developments of the region.
