Description: Exploration and application of strategies related to planning, instruction, content reading, and content literacy in the social studies classroom. Emphasis will be placed on applying knowledge from content courses to design lessons associated with state and national standards. Special attention will be placed on content from the social sciences. Students will also explore their own socio-cultural frames and how individual identity impacts educational experience for both teachers and learners. Field experience outside of class time in a K-12 setting required. Prerequisites: Must be admitted to Teacher Ed or enrolled in Master of Arts in Teaching. Must be enrolled in one of following degree programs: Master of Arts in Teaching, Secondary Social Studies Concentration; BA in Social Studies Education; Educational Studies Minor. Notes: Specifically designed for students seeking secondary certification in Social Studies. Offered in spring.
