Description: Unicorns are mythical creatures that often symbolize positivity and a magnetic pull representing those we want to engage with. Dragons represent those less like us that we may be afraid to engage in fear of fiery conflict. However, unicorns and dragons can create an unlikely friendship that has rarely existed in the same story, but unexpected magical things happen when they do. In reality, the ability to work with people, unlike us is a necessity. Successful companies focus on hiring diverse talent, serving diverse communities, and highly value employees with DEI aptitude. This course focuses on professional development and facilitating meaningful experiences that teach future leaders and workers (1) the magical benefits of cultivating an equitable and inclusive experience for employees and clients, (2) integrating empirical research and best practices into managerial and leadership activities, and (3) how to implement successful DEI initiatives that increase revenue, performance, and innovation. The goal is for students to leave with cultural empathy, fluency, and an understanding of how unicorns and dragons can co-exist and create magic. Prerequisite: All MGMT courses above 299 have a prerequisite of junior status, an overall GPA of at least 2.00, and a grade of C- or better in HMXP 102 or HXCT 301.
