The course examines the history of the built environment from antiquity through the early 20th century from a global perspective, including the Western canon as well as projects, buildings, and cities designed and built in other geographic and cultural contexts. Organized thematically, rather than chronologically, the course explores the relationship between architecture and technology, materials, and construction methods in specific contexts around the world, including the emergence and development of new architectural typologies. Preq: AAH 1010.
