GEOL 260: NASA Space Mission Design

GEOL 266: Virtual Exped in Paleontology

In this course, students will be instructed on how to do field work at a real fossil excavation site. Our expedition will explore a variety of ancient and geologically-important environments of various geologic formations. This course aims to introduce students to paleontological fieldwork and also to teach the basics of North American vertebrate paleontology. Students will learn how to plan and organize an expedition and how to interpret what they have found. Dinosaurs will serve as the course's model organisms. The three rock groups are related to petrophysical, petrochemical and tectonic environments. Identification of hand samples and thin sections are taught in the laboratory.
