C 314. Nuclear and Radiochemistry Instrumentation. 3(3,0). Designed for the students who are interested in the work principles and experimental skills of all basic types of nuclear detectors. The course porvides students with fundamental knowledge of nuclar detetion principles, nuclear counting statistics, as well as an intensive training in operating nuclear instruments. Students are also trained on the basic radiochemistry procedures of preparing samples for radioanalysis. The samples are obtained from natural resources including water, soil and air. The nuclear dectectors covered in this course include Contamination Survey Meter, GM detector, Na(I) detector, Liquid Scinitllation Analyzer, High Purity Germanium Gamma Spectrometer, Alpha Spectrometer, and Radon Gas Detectror. As nuclear technology has been widely used in many scientific disciplines such as environmental sciece, geological, biological science, and medical science, stutents majoring in various scientific fields can benefit from learning the basic nuclear detetion technologies from this course. The course is divided into eleven units. In each of the units, a new detector are introduced by a theory class and a lab experiment. Basitl11ath/nuclear knowledge and instrumentation training is required for taking this course. Prerequisities: C 204/NE 305, P253, C153, M163.
