(3)(Coreq: ASTR 112L) An introduction to contemporary astronomy that explores our current understanding of the distant Cosmos and the unique methods employed to study astronomical objects. Topics include the history of astronomy, stellar structure, stellar evolution, galaxies, and cosmology, along with ongoing searches for extraterrestrial life outside the Solar System. The course material is designed primarily, but not exclusively, for non-science majors and can be taken independently from ASTR 111. F,S.
