Provide mathematics content for early childhood and elementary teachers based on Pre-K through Grade 6 Mathematics Curriculum Standards. Content will be explored through the use of research-based instructional strategies appropriate for young children, modeling methods consistent with best practice. Mathematics content will be discussed from a developmental perspective.

This course will provide an overview of the theoretical and evidence-based foundations of reading in middle level and secondary education. Major theoretical perspectives of cognitive, linguistic, motivational and sociocultural foundations of reading and writing will be examined. Additional study of formal and information assessment instruments and strategies and their application in measuring and monitoring student learning will occur. Seminars and group discussions are held. This course aligns with Read to Succeed Legislation requirements for pre-service teachers.
