  A supervised clinical teaching experience conducted in a public school. This is a full-time, entire semester internship. Each student also attends weekly evening seminars. This last course in the M.A.T. sequence requires an application to be filed two semesters prior to internship. Application forms are available on the School of Education website. Prerequisite: all other program of studies requirements, including a minimum of 75 hours of field experiences in public schools. Passing scores on the PRAXIS II specialty area examinations are required before enrollment in this course.

  The purpose of the course is to prepare school counselors to work within elementary and secondary school systems. A model for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive guidance and counseling program with emphasis on student development and competencies will be presented. The school guidance counselor's role and function will be discussed as a balance of responsive services, systems support, individual planning, and guidance curriculum. Students will develop resources, classroom guidance curricula and group counseling materials that they can use in their field work experiences and in the initial stages of their careers.
