  This is the capstone course for nursing which integrates concepts and skills learned throughout the curriculum. Students focus on the care of complex indi- viduals and populations, While the focus is on the care of the individual in the hospital setting, highly coordinated care in the community will also be studied. Ethical and moral aspects of care will be learned as well palliative and end of life care principles and psychosocial aspects of individuals and families in crisis.

  The course focuses on the health of children from birth through 18 years of age. The care of the individual at each developmental stage is explored along with developmental milestones and health maintenance and promotion. Pathology related specifically to children is also discussed and students learn to care of children with disease and disability.

  This course is designed to help the student prepare for the NCLEX (licensing) examination which is taken after graduation. The student will spend two hours per week using Kaplan Resources in a structured format to position the student for success. This is a pass/fail course but the student must pass the course to meet the requirements for graduation.

  This course is focuses on the health of women across the lifespan but with a focus on the childbearing woman. Students will gain an understanding of the needs of female adolescence, women during childbearing years, premenopausal, menopausal and post-menopausal women. The special needs of health promotion and disease prevention will be emphasized.

• NURS 410: Behavioral Health

  This course allows the student to focus on acute behavioral healthcare (mental health) and the care of individuals with chronic behavioral health issues who 497 recieve their care in the community rather than institutional settings. The South Carolina Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics with Interpretive Statements are incorporated throughout the course. Students will continue to work with information management systems to provide safe and effective nursing care.

  This course will address nursing care issues from a physiological, pathophysiological, and psychosocial context. It will present content of two disciplines comprehensively, promoting a sensitive, holistic outlook on nursing practice. Nurses will be presented up-to-date information that will allow them to think critically, creatively, and compassionately for these populations.

Students will have experiences in a variety of different clinical settings designed to support the learning outcomes of the course. In some instances students will be involved in direct care of individual patients, others will be observational experiences and others will be the management of populations or communities.

While the focus is on the care of the individual in the hospital setting, highly coordinated care in the community will also be studied. Students will also learn about the care of complex population of patients. Ethical and moral aspects of care will be learned as well palliative and end of life care principles and psychosocial aspects of individuals and families in crisis.

  This is the clinical experience associated with the lecture course on Pediatrics. During these experiences the student will have the opportunity to apply in practice knowledge, skills and abilities that are learned in the classroom setting. Students will be provided with a variety of different experiences to help them gain a better understanding of the care of the infant, child and adolexcent and their families.
