South Carolina State University, founded in 1896 as a land grant institution with a mission of providing service to the citizens of the state, has evolved from a small teachers’ college into a major University center of learning and research. Located in Orangeburg, S.C., with a student population of some 5,000, SC State offers more than 50 different fields of study on the undergraduate and graduate levels. South Carolina State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    A minimum 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent of a “C” on the other scales.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Submit official transcripts from all post secondary institutions attended and a final official transcript for all coursework in progress up until the time of enrollment at SC State University.
  • SAT Scores:
    Submit High School transcript and official SAT/ACT Scores if less than 30 semester hours college-level work have been obtained in a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Not required
  • Essay:
    SC State University does not require an essay or personal statement for Undergraduate applicants.
  • Application Fee:
    A Non-Refundable Application Fee of $25.00. Both Electronic and Paper applications are accepted.
  • Interview:
    SC State University does not require an interview for Undergraduate applicants but strongly encourage campus visits for all applicants.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    "C", "B" & "A" grades only are transferable to the University for college level work, 101 level course work or higher. The University does not accept remedial or developmental course work.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Transfer students must earn at least 30 semester hours in residence at South Carolina State University to earn a degree.
