Description:
This course introduces students to the contemporary political issues of the African continent. It provides understanding(s) of pre-colonial and contemporary governance structures, effects of colonialism, the post-colonial state - the military in politics, "democratization" and Africa in the global economy. Emphasis is also placed on several key issues and analytical approaches to the study of Africa e.g. feminist,environmentalism and modernization theories of conflict and change.
