(3) This course provides a comprehensive overview of the field of public history. It explores the methods, theories and practices of public history. The course examines such public history tracks as museums, archives, national parks, cultural resource management and historic preservation, and introduces students to such topics as oral history, popular culture and environmental protection. While studying professions related to and meeting professionals in public history, the course will survey and implement public history tools, which may include technology, media, consulting, tourism and exhibits. Students will also be immersed in real world experiences dealing with public history and learn more about post-baccalaureate employment opportunities as well as graduate programs in public history.
