(3 credits) This course is designed to develop awareness and appreciation in dance in its artistic, social, historical, and cultural contexts and serves as an introductory examination of world dance forms. Students explore movement as a form of communication and personal expression while developing a contextual understanding of dance as a social reflective tool, expression/symbol of community and professional vocation. Students develop fundamental dance literacy through critical analysis of dance performance in recorded formats and in live performance when available. Students also discuss influential choreographers and genres of dance and articulate critical/aesthetic conclusions about the relationships between dance, the arts and society. F
