(3)(Prereq: SOC 101 or SOC 102, or permission of the instructor) This course introduces students to the social determinants of health and illness. Students will examine the social, economic, and political factors that shape the health of individuals, groups, and communities. A key focus will be on patterns of inequity in health, including an exploration of the way social class, gender, race/ethnicity, age, and sexual orientation influence health-related behaviors and impact access to quality health care. Offered as needed.
