(3 credits)(Prereq: ARTS*211 or ARTS*212) Portrait painting in the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of the sitter. The challenge is to express the portrait making it relevant to contemporary art and life. Paint media selection for this course is an individual choice of the student. Knowledge of the chosen paint medium is essential for successful portrait results. Technical and skill development includes anatomical studies, proportions of the face and figure, color studies, observations of skull and plaster casts and compositional strategies through direct observation of the model.
