In this seminar, students discuss the historical context of bias and exclusion; read from and discuss the primary literature to understand the science of bias, why it is present, and how it continues to persist within the field of biology; and identify actionable items to address and overcome issues of bias and exclusion at all levels from individuals to institutions. It provides a mechanism for self-education as well as self-reflection, with the intention of reducing the burden on individuals from marginalized and minoritized populations to provide education and share their experiences. To be taken Pass/No Pass only.
