Description:
Students will focus on the dynamics of the client with mental health issues within the larger population and the special needs associated with these clients. The student will employ a biopsychosocial approach to care. Students will work with nursing staff and instructor to maintain physical and psychological patient saftey. Students will have the opportunity to care for mental health patients within in-patient units as well as in the community. Specialization of mental health care will encompass pediatrics, adolescents, emergency, and the older adult among others. The student bases his/her nursing interventions on scientific nursing evidence following the nursing process. Students will participate in opportunities that involve interprofessional teamwork and communication. Swain Department of Nursing
