This course is designed to introduce the basic theories, applications, current statistics and definitions of public health, including integrating public health with other health professions. It will provide a history of public health, current events and an overview of how historical events and threats to public health have informed the evolution of public health. Students will compare public health in the United States to other countries to realize the global nature of the discipline. Students will learn how public health researchers and practitioners work to prevent disease and promote global health through scientific research, policy development, and health education. This course will also provide an introduction to biostatistics, epidemiology and using Excel to interpret data trends.
