Description:
Students will understand professional texts in German such as law, medicine, business, personnel and travel and tourism, and natural science and learn to translate these accurately from German to English. By applying the theory and techniques of translation science to render sense-for-sense translations, students will consider text register, text type, author intent and author style. Students will negotiate meaning from German on morpheme, word, sentence, paragraph and text totality level, and gain understanding of the peculiarities of German linguistic and grammatical elements while simultaneously enhancing their English language writing skills through an understanding the writing process (editing, proofreading).
