Description:
This course provides recreational therapy students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in an environment in which learning is the chief objective. Under the guidance of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), the student applies the recreational therapy clinical process (APIED process), and theories, concepts, philosophies and techniques acquired in the classroom. As is required by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), recreational therapy internships are 560 hours long (typically 40 hours a week for 14 weeks). In order to maximize the professional development of the student, the internship should encompass as many aspects of the facility operations as possible. Preq: Minimum 2.0 GPA; PRTM 2060 and PRTM 2070; and each of the following with a grade of C or higher: PRTM 3220, PRTM 3230, PRTM 3240, PRTM 3260, PRTM 3270, and PRTM 3280.
