This course examines the major figures and traditions in the field of modern political thought. In particular, students read and discuss the work of Hobbes, Locke, Montesquieu, Rousseau, and others. Students learn how to approach texts carefully and how to write clearly about the ideas of the modern Western traditions of political thought. Preq: Sophomore standing.
