Overview of Western music from antiquity through the late twentieth century, focusing on how contemporary genres and techniques have developed from musical styles of the past. Includes historical and analytical examination of representative composers and musical works of the past. Genres explored include film soundtracks, musical theatre, worship music, popular song, and dance music. Prerequisite: MUSC U110, MUSC U115, and ENGL U102; or consent of instructor.
