This course focuses on criminal behavior and is centered on the question of why some people are criminal and others follow the law. The course examines the standards by which a theoretical answer to the question should be judged, and explores answers proposed to explain deviance by criminologists, sociologists, psychologists, and geneticists over the last two centuries with a focus on how they relate to policy.
