This course focuses on the complex dynamics, tensions, and interactions between computing technologies and online relationships, including how people find emotional fulfillment in online social spaces. The course addresses the emotional aspects of interaction within emerging social, cultural and technological contexts as the notion of online relationships is approached from various perspectives. Course considerations include the transition of interpersonal relationships from offline to online, new relational experiences mediated by different digital environments and platforms, HCI design for supporting emotional connections, and the methodological and ethical issues that accompany these shifts.
