WGST 401 - Feminist Theories

Institution:
Coastal Carolina University
Subject:
Women's and Gender Studies
Description:
(3 credits) Theory provides us with the tools for interpreting and critiquing events, arguments and beliefs; when we read theory, we are forced to consider the world around us in a new way. The goal of this course is not only to critically examine the great variety of feminist theories, but also to encourage students to theorize their own understanding of the world. This course is organized around a careful investigation (and often interrogation) of key debates within Women's and Gender Studies. Central to this course is the idea that understanding the world and understanding significant categories such as race, class, gender, sexuality, and nationality are interpretive, theoretical, and political acts.
