This course introduces the histories of East Asia, Meso-America, the Middle East, South Asia, and Sub-Sahara Africa. It examines the development of each area's political, social, and cultural traditions and institutions. Close attention is devoted to social values, religious beliefs, and cultural practices. Particular emphasis is given to how contact with the West irrevocably altered each region. (Thiscourse does not count towards the requirements for the MA in History.)
