American Women Writers (3) (Prerequisite: 102 with a grade of C or higher.) Familiarizes students with women's literature in the United States, focusing on women as creators of, and characters within, American literature. Covers novels, essays, short stories, poems, and plays with special emphasis on their social and historical contexts. Draws from texts stretching from the 17th to the 20th centures and considers, among many other subjects, issues of gender, class, race, and artistic form.
