Study of the interaction between soil and structural elements such as pile foundations and retaining structures subjected to static and dynamic loads; application of general purpose finite element software for solving soil-structure interaction problems; introduction to the theory of finite element method, beams on elastic foundation, p-y curves and advanced testing procedures. Preq: CE 3210 and CE 3010, each with a C or better.
