Scaffolding reading and writing development for the young child. Teaching candidates review the essentials of language development and focus on the transition from oral language to initial reading and writing. Effective strategies and materials for nurturing literacy development of children ages 5-7 are emphasized. Prerequisite: Admission to the professional program and EDRE U384. Corequisite: EDEL U441, EDEL U450, EDEL U455, EDFO U483, and EDFO U487; or candidacy in the Leaning Disability program.
