A survey of South Carolina history from its Native American origins to the present. Major topics include the context of its founding, its maturation and "golden age," its role in the Revolution, internal divisions, including slavery, and their resolution, conflicts with the federal government and their climax in war and reconstruction, the slow recovery from these traumas, and the state's gradual modernization.
