This course is an examination of new media in contemporary art: what it is, how and why it developed, and how we interpret it within the context of art history. Since the 1950s and the development of computational technology, artists have used the material of code and the structure of algorithms to create art. We will take a thematic approach to issues in new media, and explore house aritsts are using the possibilities and materials of this rapidly developing technology.
