Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to the major federal policy decisions-represented in judicial decisions and federal laws and statues, 1954 to the present- that serve as principal guidelines for the organization and administration of American public schools. Particular attention will be paid to the impact of these federal policies on the governance, implementation and outcomes of public education at the state and local levels. Issues of access, accountability, delivery systems, funding and quality will be explored. The actors, institutions, processes and influences that help to inform these policy decisions will be explored.
