Description: Prepares students for university-level English studies by introducing and reinforcing basic strategies of literary analysis, including essay composition, research methods, documentation requirements, literary terms, critical theory, and periodicity. The course also provides practical instruction in how to navigate the choices available to the English major, including selecting electives and tracks, writing resumes, applying to graduate school, applying for internships and scholarships, preparing for careers after graduation, and tutoring. Notes: Offered in spring and fall. Students who transfer in 12 or more hours of ENGL courses numbered above 199 are exempt from ENGL 291.
