Description: Exploration and application of strategies related to planning, instruction, content reading, and content literacy in the social studies classroom. Emphasis will be placed on applying knowledge from content courses to design lessons associated with state and national standards. Special attention will be placed on content from the social sciences. Students will also explore their own socio-cultural frames and how individual identity impacts educational experience for both teachers and learners. Field experience outside of class time in a K-12 setting required. Prerequisite: Admission to Teacher Education Program; at least junior standing; major in SCST education. Corequisite: EDCO 350. Notes: Specifically designed for students planning to pursue secondary social studies certification. Offered in spring.
