Description: Introduction to language acquisition and the phonology, morphology, and syntax of Old, Middle, and Modern English, with an emphasis on the major causes and patterns of language change. Notes: Offered in fall. Prerequisites: Successful completion of one course in a foreign language. WRIT 101 is a prerequisite for all ENGL courses. HMXP 102 and a previous ENGL course are prerequisites to any 500-level ENGL course.
