Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide students nominated to serve as peer educators with the necessary skills to successfully serve in these paraprofessional positions. The course is designed to introduce students to the roles, responsibilities, and paraprofessional ethics of peer educators in higher education. The course will also provide students with the fundamental principles of effective communication for interacting with undergraduate students in a variety of peer educator settings. Emphasis will be placed on higher educational issues of student persistence, student success, new student transitions, demographics, challenges, and referral skills for campus resources.
