Description: Students will explore advanced application of strategies related to planning and instruction in the social studies classroom as well as classroom management strategies. Emphasis will be placed on instructional strategies that address the needs of multiple learners while focusing on the content and disciplinary skills in state and national standards. Further, exploration of appropriate assessment strategies will be incorporated into the unit design process. Special attention will be placed on the teaching of History and Geography. This course advocates an integrated model for teaching social studies; therefore, students will explore the interdisciplinary nature of social studies. Specifically designed for students planning to pursue middle level social studies certification. Field experience outside of class time in a K-12 setting required if not enrolled in EDCO 401. Prerequisite: Admission to Teacher Education Program. MLED majors only. Notes: Admission to teacher education required. Restricted to MLED majors. Fall only class.
