This course reviews the historical aspects of professional nursing and emphasizes the development of nursing as a profession. Critical thinking, emotional intelligence, patient education principles and the nursing process are introduced. Students will develop safe practice of basic nursing skills first in a laboratory setting and then apply these skills in a clinical setting. (Lecture 3 hours, Laboratory 3 hours, Clinical Experience 6 hours).
