Description:
(Prereq: EDML 425 and EDML 445)(Coreq: Choose one from EDML 489, EDML 481, or EDML 492) Study of methods, techniques, and materials appropriate to the teaching of social studies at the middle school level. Standards-based instructional planning and strategies for effective teaching in the social studies will be analyzed and evaluated using current research. Emphasis will be placed on but not limited to such topics as the cultural approach to the study of history, reciprocal reinforcement among the diciplines, values classification, controversial issues, citizenship education, and the roles of the social studies as a mirror of society or as a change agent for society. A clinical field experience at a middle school site is required and included in this course. F
