Advanced Methods of Organic Synthesis and Characterization (4:2-6) (Prerequisite: 202 or permission of department). Content to be divided between three areas: synthetic organic methods stressing library and laboratory work in preparative chemistry; physical methods of characterization including systematic identification of organic compounds by interpretive spectroscopy; structure and reaction dynamics including structure and reactivity relationships, molecular rearrangements, and kinetic techniques to solve problems in reaction mechanisms.
