Basic principles of chemistry treated primarily from a theoretical viewpoint. The major topics covered are atomic and molecular structure; elementary thermodynamics and statistical mechanics; properties of gases, liquids, and solids; theories of solution; homogeneous and heterogeneous equilibria; electrochemistry and surface chemistry; spectroscopy; transport processes; and chemical kinetics.
