Supervised professional experience or research outside of the classroom, involving a meaningful project or activity for the employing firm or organization and a scholarly project for the student. For three credit hours, a minimum of 135 hours of supervised work, periodic class meetings and consultation with the instructor are required. A contractual agreement signed by the employer, the student, the instructor, and the dean of the college is mandatory. A student may repeat ENGL U499 once with a different internship contract description for a total of no more than six hours of undergraduate credit. Prerequisite: Junior or senior standing; ENGL U101 and ENGL U102; a minimum of six hours in major courses numbered U300 and above; GPA 2.0 overall, 2.5 in English courses; and consent of faculty supervisor and advisor.
